Caracole: 23 Years of Service to the HIV/AIDS Community

Caracole’s mission is to provide safe, affordable housing and supportive services for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. Founded in 1987, Caracole House was the first licensed adult care facility in Ohio for people living with HIV/AIDS. Today, Caracole provides direct care services and housing to people with HIV/AIDS and their families along a continuum of care. More than 1,200 people have been housed through Caracole’s programs.

Help Support Caracole Clients with a Donation

With the help of our donors over the years, we have been privileged to house more than 1,200 homeless individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Each day, our service staff assists our clients in obtaining life-saving medical care; helps them access mental health and substance abuse services and provides home-based case management services for individuals and families isolated by this disease. For the people assisted by Caracole, housing is their health care. Please consider a gift to help us continue to provide these crucial services in our community. When you contribute to Caracole, your donation is nothing less than a life-line for those living with HIV/AIDS.

We have lined up 14 fantastic different parties all over Greater Cincinnati – so there’s something for everyone! The fun begins with the kick off party on July 9th – a popular progressive dinner party that follows the Ohio River!

But the fun doesn’t stop there! To end the summer on a fun note, we are bringing back the popular Rock ‘n Bowl for Caracole – you won’t want to miss this outrageous black tie bowling event on August 28th!

Caracole wins 2009 ONE Award in Process Category!

On October 15th, Caracole was honored as the recipient of the 2009 ONE Award (Organizations of Noteworthy Excellence) in the Process Category. The ONE Award is sponsored by The Cincinnati Business Courier, The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, The Ralph V. and Carol A. Haile/US Bank Foundation, Clark Schaefer Hackett & Co., The Daniel & Susan Pfau Foundation, Smith Beers Yunker & Company, and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati. The award recognizes best practices among nonprofit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region by utilizing proven criteria for excellence with independent, outside review in key impact areas. Organizations are honored based on criteria adapted from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria for Performance Excellence. Honorees are examples of organizations excelling in one or more of the key focus areas of People, Process, Principles and Performance.

The distinction in the Process Category is Caracole’s second honor from the ONE Awards, having won the People Category last year. The Process Category examines how each organization develops and deploys strategy, accomplishes operational planning and identifies and manages key work processes.

Feedback from the examiner team that conducted Caracole’s site visit included the following statements, “The applicant uses client surveys, a bottom-up approach to action planning and prioritized objectives as part of its approach to program delivery. The inclusive nature of the applicant’s processes, high staff retention rates, the sincerity of the Board, volunteers and staff form a strong basis of knowledge and experience and create a firm foundation on which the applicant operates.”

Linda Seiter, Caracole’s Executive Director commented, “The time and effort that we invested in the ONE Award application process allowed us to take a good look at how our organization operates on all levels. I look forward to reviewing the feedback from the examiner team and using it to make Caracole run as efficiently as it can.”
